State, Local jobless rates still falling

Washington Employment Security Department today released its new estimate of nonfarm employment, based on the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics data. It shows 3,800 more residents found jobs from March into April and a seasonally adjusted statewide unemployment rate of 7.0 percent, compared to 8.4 percent a year ago.

Seattle tunnel work brings jobs to Pierce

FPS EnCon Precast, at Frederickson Industrial Park, today celebrated adding a big chunk of business and dozens of jobs to Pierce County's construction industry. This is due to a recent factory expansion in order to fabricate parts of the future Highway 99 tunnel near Seattle’s waterfront. Specifically, the viaduct replacement project needs 1,450 precast concrete rings to bolster the tunnel. All of these rings are being made at EnCon's enhanced Frederickson site in Puyallup. Tacoma Goodwill's 2013 Ready to Work breakfast this morning shone a spotlight on the nonprofit agency's work around its coverage area and honored a pair of businesses for involvement in its mission.
