Seattle Southside announces Ambassador winners
Seattle Southside Visitor Services, the official tourism department for the cities of Tukwila, SeaTac, Kent and Des Moines, has announced their 2013 Seattle Southside Tourism Ambassador Awards.
For the past several years, Seattle Southside has honored individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty to support the tourism industry and the Seattle Southside region. For 2013, the group of hoteliers who created Seattle Southside's Tourism Promotion Area were the driving force for the effort.
Recipients of the Ambassador awards include Vickie Molzer, General Manager, Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Seattle-Sea-Tac Airport; Frank Welton, General Manager, DoubleTree by Hilton Seattle Airport & Hilton Seattle Airport and Conference Center; Maureen Huffman, General Manager, Embassy Suites Seattle-Tacoma International Airport; Perry Wall, General Manager, Clarion Hotel SeaTac International Airport; Michael Schabbing, General Manager, Courtyard by Marriott Seattle Southcenter; Caroline Curtis, Director of Operations, BMI Hospitality Management; and Scott Ostrander, General Manager, Cedarbrook Lodge.
In 2012, travelers spent $625.7 million in Seattle Southside, an increase of 5.8 percent from the previous year, resulting in $63.8 million in local and state tax receipts. Employment grew by 4.6 percent, the strongest growth since 2005, with 5,240 jobs garnering $185.2 million in wages now supporting tourism in Des Moines, Kent, SeaTac and Tukwila.
“This group really believes in the value of tourism and the Seattle Southside program,” said Katherine Kertzman, Seattle Southside Visitor Services executive director. “They are such strong believers, (and) they are willing to assess themselves in order to devote more funds to tourism promotion.”
