State leaps 6 others to #25 in ‘Opportunity’

Nov 29, 2017 - 03:44 PM

Washington is a solid mid-range state among the 50, according to new analysis from Opportunity Washington, a statewide coalition policy group that advocates for smart policy and strategic investments.

Using independently-produced data, the organization’s Fall 2017 Update places the Evergreen State at No. 25, based on its performance in Achieve (educational quality and outcomes), Connect (transportation) and Employ (economic vitality.) This is a significant improvement (especially for the Employ data) from Spring 2017, when the overall ranking was No. 31.

Longer commute times pulled Washington down to 39th among the 50 for transportation, while the education component improved four spots, due to gains across four post-secondary metrics for degrees earned per capita.

Operating since 2014, Opportunity Washington keeps track of what it calls Priorities of Shared Prosperity. Its goal is to be in the Top 10 of all states in each of the three areas. You can see the full report at this link.
