Insurance commish fines two South Sound businesses

Oct 16, 2017 - 06:03 PM

The office of Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler has announced a list of companies — including two in the South Sound — disciplined in August and September for violating state insurance regulations.

Jeffrey M. Melnyk, owner of Fenix Insurance Agency in Enumclaw, was fined $250.

One of his clients canceled policies and switched to American Family Insurance. One of Melnyk’s employees, producer AnnMarie Sweeney, emailed the client and made a derogatory statement about American Family Insurance, a violation of state insurance law.

The client forwarded the email to the new insurance agent, who filed a complaint with the insurance commissioner. Sweeney was also fined $250 for the violation.

Meanwhile, Kent’s Ticor Title Co., was fined $6,000. The company gave free home warranties worth at least $260 to its clients, a violation of the state’s insurance laws.
