National industry awards for Oly's The Artisans Group

Olympia’s The Artisans Group and co-principal Tessa Smith have won two national awards for the design and construction of a hyper-energy efficient single family home.

The awards were handed out at the recent 12th annual Passive House Conference, which brought together building science experts from around North America to discuss and celebrate successful passive house projects. Passive house is a voluntary standard of architecture and construction that demands extreme energy efficiency (using, for example, 75 percent less energy than a non-passive new home).

The Artisans Group received the Best Single Family Passive House award at the conference, with Smith taking home Best Project by a Young Professional. Both awards, given by a panel of industry-leading architects and building scientists, were conferred for the company’s work on the Contemporary Pacific Northwest Delphi Passive House design.

“I want our Pacific Northwest to have homes that are built with resilience, comfort, and beauty in mind,” Smith said. “Designing to the Passive House standard allows me to create homes that are healthier for my clients and less stressful for the environment.  With Delphi House, our clients love this region, and they wanted a well-crafted energy efficient home designed to take advantage of their amazing mountain views. They needed healthy indoor air and Aging-in-Place Universal Design concepts throughout; Passive House building technology helps us create just that — a health-promoting, better built, and more sustainable home.”
