Olympia's GHB Insurance celebrates 90 years
Olympia brokerage GHB Insurance, Inc., is celebrating its 90th anniversary with a community challenge to contribute to a local nonprofit.
The business is inviting the public to accept the “GHB Live United Challenge” and contribute to United Way Thurston County or to the United Way of their choice. The challenge began Oct. 1, 2017 and will last for 90 days — a way for the local company to commemorate its long heritage of community engagement.
That engagement began when GHB was founded by 'Griff' Irwin Griffith in 1927. He volunteered in several community service organizations, was director at the local Chamber of Commerce and an organizer for the Community Chest — the former name of today's United Way.
“We wanted to celebrate this milestone in a way that represents what our company and staff stand for,” said GHB president Ron Bruchet who, like the company’s founder, serves on the United Way of Thurston County’s board and was the chair of Thurston County Chamber in 2015. “We are in this together and we thrive as the community thrives.”
“The heart of a healthy community is engaged people and organizations,” said Paul Knox, recently retired executive director for the United Way in Olympia. “In Thurston County, we rely on small and medium-size businesses in the private sector for United Way to be successful. Engaging in the community is good for business and the community. GHB is a great example of that.”
