Third extension granted to Western State Hospital

Oct 2, 2017 - 04:06 PM

Another extension has been granted to Western State Hospital by The Department of Social and Health Services, this one running through Nov. 2.

The extension to the Systems Improvement Agreement from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The extension is important because over its duration, the hospital continues to be certified by CMS and maintain its eligibility for federal funding.

This is the third extension granted to the embattled hospital while it works to fix systemic operating problems at the hospital and restore the focus on patient treatment and overall safety. CMS and DSHS entered into the original agreement in June 2016, granting a 60-day extension in July followed by a 30-day extension in September.
