Term starts at Green River's new Auburn Center

Sep 19, 2016 - 05:21 PM

The fall quarter at Green River College begins today, which means it’s the first day of class at the school’s new Auburn Center.

The building, located at 1221 D St. NE, opened last week, the culmination of a process that began when the school’s board of trustees approved the acquisition of 3.7 acres south of Auburn Municipal Airport. First announced in spring 2014 with construction beginning a year later, the 31,499-square-foot building houses Green River’s aviation program, as well as its Small Business Development Center and Washington Environment Training Center.

The new center replaces Green River’s old Auburn facility, giving the school the advantage of owning the building instead of renting.

The total price tag for the project, including the purchase of the property and site improvements, comes to approximately $20 million, with building costing about $10 million.
