40/40: Returns from work, distilling success
From his beginnings as a newspaper delivery boy while in the fourth grade, Marty Juergens has never been afraid of putting out effort to earn what he wants. That dedication carried him through high school and into college, to an award-winning football career at Western Washington University, and into his selection as a 2017 “40 Under Forty” honoree.
It has also sustained him as he and a partner stepped out to create their own wealth advisory investment firm in 2009 – an Olympia practice that today has grown over 250 percent (measured by assets in management) in the past seven years and now has five advisors.
“Success is knowing that you are giving everything you have to something,” Juergens says. “Helping people is what I truly love about my job.”
He’s also helping his community as treasurer, board member and finance committee lead for Community Foundation of South Puget Sound and as a former Young Life board member. The athletic interests are still event in the 30-plus youth teams he has coached over multiple seasons of football, basketball, baseball and soccer.
Marty Juergens clearly has earned his “40 Under Forty” recognition.
Hannah Hanley joined a Gig Harbor start-up in its tasting room just under four years ago. She brought experience working Marketing, PR and Events at a Park City, Utah, resort during and after college. But joining this South Sound beverage crafting operation so close to Tacoma, where she grew up, has proven very fruitful for her as well as the business.
The CEO of Heritage Distilling Co. in his nomination credits Hanley with being instrumental in developing the overall look, branding and recipe profile for the spirits maker, which is rapidly expanding across the Pacific Northwest. He’s rapidly promoted her from tasting room to brand manager, to marketing, then general manager and now she is director of strategic development.
“Growing within Heritage has been an exciting and rewarding opportunity,” Hanley says. “Being able to be part of (its) continuing success makes me very proud.” She does acknowledge that finding balance in work, life, wellness and family has been – and remains – a challenge, not unlike many high achievers of any age.
Meet Marty and Hannah, plus 38 other remarkable members of 2017’s 40 Under Forty cohort at the celebration of their honors on Wednesday, October 11, at Foss Waterway Seaport in downtown Tacoma. It begins with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. and the recognition program will conclude before 8 o’clock. Tickets are available at this link.
