Artists sought for bike-themed temporary artwork

In recognition of National Bike Month, the City of Tacoma and the Tacoma Art Museum are inviting artists from Pierce and Thurston counties to submit proposals for the creation of a piece of temporary artwork for the fourth annual Zeit-Bike exhibit at the Tacoma Art Museum.

The deadline for submissions is March 19.
The 2010 Zeit-Bike competition is seeking three artists or artist teams to create kinetic sculptures that reference bicycles either in form, materials or essence. The sculptures must be functional enough to be ridden and human powered. Artists will be selected through a competitive process. Each commission is $1,000.

The kinetic bike sculptures will be exhibited on the upper mezzanine at the Tacoma Art Museum from May 18-21.

Artists interested in applying may click here to download the Call to Artists, call (253) 591-5191 or by e-mailing nstrom-avila@cityoftacoma.org.
