Aug. 20, 2008 at 10:11am Bates lands rural television grantAgriculture Under Secretary for Rural Development Thomas C. Dorr today announced nearly $5 million in public television digital transition grants to fund 19 projects in 18 states, including Washington. Bates Technical College will receive a $33,000 grant to replace the existing broadcast translator owned and operated by KBTC/KCKA, Bates' public television station, with digital-ready equipment. This equipment upgrade will provide on-going service to nearly 25,000 rural residents residing in Wahkiakum and Pacific counties in the southwest corner of the state. This project will maintain critical, high definition public broadcasting educational programming as well as wireless broadband communications in the event of an emergency.
