Blog Watch: Small world

Thurston blogger Ken Balsley notes just how small the world is getting these days by writing about his recent trip to Los Angeles for an International Rotary Conference. Rotarians from around the world gathered to chat. Balsley was doing just that with an English chap who actually knew where Lacey was on a globe.

"Of course I do," he replied. "That's the home town of Kasey Keller. You've even named a street after him," Balsley wrote that the young man said.

How many South Sounders know that Lacey has a street named after the four-time World Cup player? Keller is listed among the first American goalkeepers to become a regular in the English Premier League. That's soccer or – as the rest of the world calls it – football.

The Association of Washington Business has a note about a recent report from the National Association of Manufacturers that states manufacturing was up in July. This is just a reminder that America is still the world's largest manufacturer and will remain so for up to another 12 years even with the 10 percent annual growth in China.
