Community servant recognized

Rotary Club of Tacoma No. 8 today recognized John Folsom, retired CEO of Brown & Brown Insurance, for his decades of giving and broad leadership.

As a tribute to Folsom's continuing efforts on behalf of local education, economic development, arts and culture programs, he became the 46th recipient of this Community Service Award, which recognizes non-Rotary members who live the service club's motto of "Service Above Self."
In his acceptance remarks, Folsom noted that service clubs bring together the "movers and shakers" of any community, and success comes when "the whole village is working together with a collective passion."

The honorarium for Tacoma Rotary was directed by its recipient to the Mary Bridge Children's Hospital programs to intervene, treat and prevent child abuse and assault. Its signature event, the Courage Classic bicycle ride, has benefited from Folsom's personal participation nearly every year and fund-raising in excess of $100,000.
