Enumclaw insurance giant gains new leader

Gerald P. Schmidt will step down from his post as president and chief executive officer of Mutual of Enumclaw Insurance Company at the end of January 2010. He will remain on the board for the regional property and casualty insurer operating in four Northwest states.

Current Senior Vice President Eric P. Nelson will become the 11th CEO for the 111 year-old cooperative that serves 297,000 members in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Utah.
Nelson has been with the company for nine years and began his insurance career in 1986 following his graduation from Oregon State University.
