'Ida's Pub' no longer Ida's

Ida Crow-Rodgers is selling her popular Tacoma bar, Ida's Pub, to a pair of customers. Neither the buyers' names nor the purchase amount have been disclosed, but Crow-Rodgers said she has recouped her 10-year investment. The sale is expected to close this week. Crow-Rodgers said the name of the bar will be changed to "The Mix."

Crow-Rodgers headed the dining room of the Puyallup Eagles for 18 years before deciding she needed a change of pace. She purchased the former St. Helens Pub, located at 635 Saint Helens Ave., in 2000.

"We didn't change the floor plan so much as we cleaned it up," she said.

Crow-Rodgers, who grew up in Tacoma, said she has decided to retire. She and her husband, Robert "Buck" Rodgers, plan to travel; visit her children, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and enjoy the summer tooling around in her 1999 Ford Mustang.

Though she couldn't name the buyers at this point, she said they were customers, both teachers, and were excited to take the reins. Crow-Rodgers will stay on to help the pair of "young men" through the end of May.

"We promised to help them. They've been coming here for quite awhile," she said. "As far as I know, the boys aren't going to make many changes. I want them to make it."

I met Ida when I moved back to Tacoma last July and lived briefly at the Webster. What a great lady. I wish she and her husband well.
