Kent Center achieves milestone

The latest major milestone for the Kent Events Center came and went after a long day of work yesterday. The concrete was poured to form the center's ice rink floor. The process took 12 hours.

The concrete surface is 85 feet wide and 200 feet long and is being handled by Mortenson Construction to be directly above the layers of cooling pipes, insulation and heating system.

"Pouring the concrete for a floor of this size is a major process, especially when considering the amount of time that it takes to complete," said Ben Golding, Mortenson project manager. "Now that it is finished, we are excited to move on to the installation of the seats next month."

The Kent Events Center arena floor is 17,000 square feet. The Seattle Thunderbirds will begin play at the Kent Events Center in 2009.
