Aug. 26, 2010 at 2:36pm Sound Transit awards Sounder D-to-M Streets contract to MidMountainThe Sound Transit Board of Directors today authorized the award of the construction contract for the Sounder D-to-M Streets Track and Signal project to MidMountain Contractors Inc. The project will build a commuter rail line from East D to South M Streets in Tacoma. Work on the project is expected to begin in late September. Hughes, owner and managing member of Hughes Group LLC of Lakewood was named national Minority Small Business Person of the Year today during the 28th annual National Minority Enterprise Development Week conference in Washington, D.C. The veteran-owned company was established in 1999 by Hughes, a veteran of 28 years in the military. It is an 8(a) and HUBZone certified firm, and is classified as a small disadvantaged business and a service disabled veteran-owned small business. Email Mike Jul. 23, 2010 at 1:01pm DOL will help local jurisdictions with traffic offense refundsThe Department of Licensing will reimburse local governments for refunds made to drivers who paid fines for cell phone and texting violations and some other traffic offenses. On June 30, DOL discovered that municipal court judges in several jurisdictions were dismissing cell phone and texting tickets because the Model Traffic Ordinance had not been updated to reflect these violations. The $185 million purchase agreement with Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railway will enable the regional transit agency to incrementally expand its commuter rail service from nine to 13 round trips a day, with the first new round trip starting as soon as 2012. Neel Parikh, executive director of the Pierce County Library System, has received the Sullivan Award for the Public Library Administrators Supporting Services to Children from the American Library Association. Parikh is a founding member and chair of the Early Learning Public Library Partnership, which is focused on early learning movement in Washington.
