Local bidder wins new jail project

Lydig Construction is the apparent low bidder for South Correctional Entity (SCORE), which will bring a cost-effective misdemeanant corrections facility to partnering cities of Auburn, Burien, Des Moines, Federal Way, Renton, SeaTac and Tukwila.

A low construction cost of $62,000 per bed is half the cost of other jails planned in the Northwest and further savings in operation costs are expected through design solutions enabling a six to one staffing ratio using a combination of direct and indirect supervision methods.
"The design delivers an effective and secure facility of very high quality for a very responsible cost," says designer, DLR Group's Principal in charge of the project, Bill Buursma.

Construction is scheduled to begin in Des Moines this month.
