Nordstrom opens

The new Tacoma Mall Nordstrom opened at 10 a.m. today with a crowd of people counting down the seconds until they could enter. When the doors finally opened, a stream of people entered the more modern Nordstrom with music blasting from all directions.

The store spans two levels, like the previous building, and is 138,000 square feet. The store includes both an espresso bar and cafe.

The new Nordstrom and BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse are both part of a multi-stage update to the mall. The mall will hold a grand reopening tomorrow and Sunday in celebration of its newest addition, a 100,000-square-foot lifestyle section. Malls across the country are tending to go with the more lifestyle malls and retail centers, which typically eliminate the enclosed space connecting stores.
