Olympia Airport seeks to land flights

Port of Olympia gave a green light last night to let an Oregon-based consulting company look into ways of landing a company that would offer regular flights between the Thurston County airstrip and Portland.

If the routes begin, the flights would be the first of their kind since Big Sky Airlines discontinued its service between the South Sound and Spokane in 2004.
The keystone of the effort is to first land a $1.5 million Department of Transportation grant to help pay for the service, which would web routes throughout Puget Sound's network of airports. News on the grant won't come until the fall, so service is still at least a year away.
