Olympia police nabs clinic burglar

Two separate burglary alarms from medical offices near Olympia's Lilly Road just after 10 p.m. Thursday night brought police officers to the neighborhood. While no intruder was found near some broken windows, there was enough suspicion that two officers stayed nearby.

The police officers tactics paid off just after midnight, when they observed a man with a backpack near a third medical building. With help from a police dog, they crept closer and were able to see that the suspect had entered an office in the 3600 block of Ensign Road, and a small copier machine was on the ground outside a broken window.

According to a news release from Olympia Police Department, when the officers called out to him, the man tried kicking his way out of the building. He then fled through the building and out another door where he was tackled outside by police dog "Conan" and taken into custody.

Jake S. Summers, 20, of Rainier was booked into policy custody on one charge of burglary in the second degree and one count of malicious mischief in the second degree.

Anyone with additional information or who might find additional evidence of attempted burglary in the vicinity of Providence St. Peter Hospital is requested to call the Olympia Police Department Detective Bureau at (360) 753-8400 or Thurston County Crime Stoppers at (360) 493-2222
