Jerry D. Larson has been elected president of the Western Washington Fair Association. Other officers include: Gary F. Gonter, vice president; Michael D. Nelson, secretary; David R. Campbell, treasurer; and Kent R. Hojem, CEO.

Olympia Downtown Association has elected officers for 2012. They include: Tracy Knostman, West Coast Bank, president; Jeanne Carras, Bonaventure, past president and treasurer; Jerry Farmer, 94.5 ROXY Radio, vice president; and Jane Offutt, Frost & Co., secretary.

HCA moving Lacey services to Olympia later this month

Washington State Health Care Authority will make its final move as part of its merger with the state Medicaid Purchasing Administration on Feb. 21 when it relocates its remaining Lacey staff to Olympia.

The HCA office at 676 Woodland Square Loop in Lacey will close at 3 p.m. Feb. 17. On Feb. 21, the HCA will provide all customer services from HCA's headquarters at Cherry Street Plaza, 626 8th Ave. SE, Olympia. The move will not affect post office box mailing addresses used by HCA customers. Toll-free numbers for the agency's programs will not change, however, individual staff numbers will change.

Heritage posts sharp decrease in Q4 and 2011 income compared to 2010

Heritage Financial Corp. reported net income for the quarter ended Dec. 31 of $2.2 million compared to $9.1 million for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2010 and $1.8 million for the linked-quarter ended Sept. 30, 2011.
 
The net income applicable to common shareholders for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2011, was 14 cents per diluted common share, compared to 77 cents per diluted common share for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2010, and 12 cents per diluted common share for the linked-quarter ended Sept. 30, 2011.

Bill Ecker has joined Pease Construction Inc. as director of business development. He has more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry, and also has earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental accreditation and is a Designated Design Build Professional.

Robin Corak has been named chief executive officer for Multi-Service Center, a Federal Way-based human services agency. She has held management positions with Multi-Service Center since 2005, the past two years as the agency's chief operations officer.

ODA honors Snyder, Corso and ROXY

Olympia Downtown Association honored the following individuals and businesses during its annual meeting.

Ruth Snyder, a downtown code enforcement officer for the City of Olympia, was named ODA Person of the Year.

Volunteer of the Year recognition went to Mary Corso, owner of Courtyard Antiques and 945 ROXY Radio was named Business of the Year.

Alaska USA opens Olympia branch

Alaska USA Federal Credit Union has opened its first branch in Olympia inside Top Food & Drug at 1313 Cooper Point Road SW. The credit union now operates 19 branches in Washington, including a new branch in Port Orchard.

Both new branches offer a full range of credit union services, including ATMs and Self-Service Centers, and are open seven days a week.

Storm causes closures, but Tacoma, Olympia city offices remain open

City of Tacoma offices will remain open today, but will have reduced staffing. All non-essential staff who feel that they cannot make it to work safely are allowed to use leave time and stay home today.

Home values down in November

Home values in the United States were essentially unchanged during November, decreasing 0.1 percent compared to October, according to the latest Zillow Real Estate Market Reports. On an annual basis, the Zillow Home Value Index fell 4.6 percent compared to November 2010 to $147,800 and has returned to late 2003 levels.

In Washington, home values were down 8.2 percent statewide to $212,000. Values were off in the Olympia metro area by 7.9 percent to $206,500. In Tacoma, values fell 12.9 percent to $153,300.

South Sound jobless numbers lower during November

Unemployment rates were lower during November than a year earlier in 351 of the nation's 372 metropolitan areas, including Olympia and Tacoma, according to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The jobless rate fell in Olympia from 7.8 percent to 7.5 percent. In Tacoma, unemployment dropped from 9.3 percent to 8.8 percent.

Groups ask Olympia council to settle 7-Eleven lawsuit

Westside residents and businesses are calling on newly elected Mayor Stephen Buxbaum and the new Olympia City Council to reject a city staff-approved 7-Eleven at Harrison Avenue and Division Street.

After the city planning staff and the city's administrative law judge approved the 7-Eleven over the objections of residents and the SW Neighborhood Association, Dan Leahy, a long-time resident of the Westside, sued the city in Superior Court to stop the 7-Eleven.

Capital Medical Center launching Advanced Wound Care Center

Capital Medical Center is scheduled to open its Advanced Wound Care Centeron Jan. 11 at 601 McPhee Road SW, Olympia, as a part of the Capital Imaging Center and Outpatient Clinic.  

The center, an outpatient program that focuses on chronic and non-healing wounds using multiple medical disciplines that incorporate the use of debridement, bioengineered tissue, therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, is equipped with two Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy chambers. HBOT is a medical treatment that enhances natural healing by providing additional oxygen to the body's tissues.

Port, salmon groups working to restore estuary

Port of Olympia and the South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group are partnering on a habitat restoration project at Mission Creek in Priest Point Park. The port is paying $120,000 toward the project and the Salmon Recovery Funding Board will provide the remaining $60,000.

"This habitat restoration project will remove an earthen road and culvert built early in the 20th century, open the creek to fish passage and return the area to estuarine functioning," said Alexandra Smith, the port's senior environmental program manager and environmental legal counsel.
