Don Lloyd, Development Director for Rushforth Construction in Tacoma, has been named by the Rotary Club of Tacoma #8 as Rotarian of the Year. Lloyd was cited for his commitment to the club through service on the board and sponsorship of 32 members, and for his community involvement. Lloyd is past president of the Tacoma club, has chaired the Heart Walk and is presently chair of the Tacoma Lutheran Home Board of Trustees.
Olympia-based Catalyst Publishing Co. has announced its acquisition of Thurston Business Connections, a web-based resource that provides access to local business resources, networking, chambers, and community business events. The site, to be renamed Local Business Connections, is set to launch May 5 and provide free information that can be quickly accessed through calendars, lists, directories, links, advertising and articles. The site will be focused on Thurston County, but will soon include other counties in the South Sound. Initial community supporters include Washington Business Bank, Red Lion, Dale Carlson with Prime Locations, Jackson Insurance, Signs by Tomorrow and Nonprofit Solutions.
Gig Harbor's SeaGlass Cottage has changed its name to SeaGlass Interiors. The shop has also move to 3115 Harborview Drive in downtown Gig Harbor. The change comes to reflect its larger selection of beach-inspired furniture and home accents.
HomeStreet Bank has announced that Terrie Bethel recently joined its Tacoma branch as a loan officer.
Washington Business Bank President and CEO, Jon M. Jones, announced that local banker, Gordon L. Osberg, has been named senior vice president and Chief Credit Officer of the Olympia bank. Osberg comes to Washington Business Bank with more than 20 years of banking experience as well as the added experience of running his own company for the past several years.
Heritage Bank announced Renee Oram has been promoted to Business Development associate in the downtown Olympia office. This position was created earlier in the year as an opportunity to establish, retain and enhance relationships with customers and prospective customers at the branch level.
Enterprise Washington's Business Institute has honored Sen. Derek Kilmer, D-Gig Harbor for his pro-business leadership during the 2008 Legislative session. Kilmer is also a manager at the Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County. Formed in 2006, Enterprise Washington's Business Institute is designed to encourage active participation by employees and business in the government process.
U.S. Bank employee Linda Garrison has been honored with a U.S. Bank Five Star Volunteer Award for exceptional volunteer service, and the Breast Cancer Three-Day has received $500 as a result. The award honors 135 U.S. Bank employees for their exceptional volunteer service in the community in 2007. Garrison is a district operations manager for the bank and she volunteers with many different organizations, including the Three-Day Breast Cancer Walk, United Way and March of Dimes.
George Ross has been hired as a broker consultant with Gallagher Benefit Services in Tacoma. Ross has extensive knowledge of employee benefits, having worked with companies and organizations of all sizes for more than 30 years in the Puget Sound area. He has spent an equal amount of his career working as a broker and working for insurance companies. Ross regularly consults with employers regarding Health and Welfare Services, Retirement Services, Healthcare Analytics, Human Resource Services, and Executive Benefits.
SCS Refrigerated Services has announced the appointment of Carl Byrnes to the position of vice president of business development. With 15 years experience in various corporate finance and capital markets executive roles, Byrnes brings a breadth of strategic and transactional expertise to SCS, which aligns well with its long-term growth plan.
The South Puget Sound chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management has been awarded the Superior Merit Award by the national society. The award recognizes professional chapters of SHRM for their exceptional ability in operations, professional development of chapter members, promotion of the profession and support of SHRM in partnership. The South Puget Sound chapter has earned this distinction for more than 10 years and for the last two years under current chapter president Janice Tuman.
The U.S. Small Business Administration's Seattle District Office has named Rachael Costner, owner of Sands Costner and Associates and Women's Resource, as the 2008 Women In Business Champion for the Pacific Northwest region. Sands Costner is a full-service advertising and marketing firm in Tacoma. Women's Resource, a division of Sands Costner, is dedicated to promoting, empowering and connecting women in business. Costner is involved in the community in which she lives and works. She recently bought a historically registered Victorian building in Tacoma that serves as her new offices. She has been a board member of Tacoma Neighborhoods Together since 2004 and became marketing chair for the Tacoma Philharmonic in 2006. Her volunteer work includes serving on many marketing committees and community partnerships to provide media sponsorships, and fundraising for non-profit and community organizations.
Venture Bank has hired Tanya Dunbar as a customer service representative at the bank's Yelm branch.
