Promotions and recognition

The Puyallup South Hill Rotary has announced the following new officers: Carole Axtell, president; Kellie Monette-Chapman, secretary; Keriann Cockrell, assistant secretary; Stan Ausmus, treasurer; Shan Vipond, financial reporting; Curtis Thiel, past president; and Edd LaVille, president-elect. Other board members include Terry Harman, Dudley Yamane, Don Miller, Cindy Estep, Shane Klingenstein, Karen Fisher, Jane Hostvedt, Jerome O'Leary, Michelle Strom, Karen Hansen, Kim Rushing, Shawn Manley and Eric Zawilski.

Cindy DeShields has been named assistant vice president and controller at Olympia Federal Savings. DeShields was hired in 1987 as the association controller. Tamara Hale had been promoted to assistant vice president and branch manager. Hale was hired in 1977 as a customer service representative at the main office. Melissa Wood has been selected for the position of assistant vice president and main office manager. Wood has been with Olympia Federal since 1994 when she was hired as a customer service representative for the Westside Branch. Michelle Lord has been promoted to assistant vice president and branch manager. Lord began her career with Olympia Federal in 1982 as an office assistant and receptionist at the main office.

Jen Marlowe has been selected as one of the top young pest control company executives in the nation by Pest Management Professional Magazine. Forty executives under the age of 40 were recognized in the"40 & Under Future Leaders List," which appeared in the trade publication's June issue. Marlowe, 23, is marketing director at Eden Advanced Pest Technologies, an Olympia-based pest control company founded by her father in 1989.

LeMay – America's Car Museum announced the recent pledge of $200,000 from Harry Delaloye of Seattle. Delaloye and his wife, June, began to generously support the Museum in 2002 in response to the mailing of OpenRoad– the museum's quarterly publication. June Delaloye passed away in April 2007 and Delaloye decided to make this pledge to "The Drive for America's Car Museum" campaign in her honor. The gift will provide for the naming of a board room in the new museum, planned to open to the public in 2010. The permanent recognition will also serve in memory of Mrs. Delaloye.

The Morgan Stanley Global Wealth Management Group in Olympia will be moving its offices to 1801 W. Bay Drive. NW, #207 in September. The new location is in the Smyth Landing building near West Bay Marina. An open house is in the works for the fall.

The Society of Professional Journalists has named the Western Washington Professional Chapter the best large chapter in the nation. During the fall of 2007, the chapter held its second Continuing Education Series, offering eight-weeks of classes aimed at online editing, Photoshop, creating sound files for the Web and other topics to make area journalists more tech savvy. The chapter hosted many other programs during the year that focused on ethics, Freedom of Information, diversity and freelancing. Business Examiner Assistant Editor Hilary Reeves is the chapter's incoming president.
