Gary Geddes, director of Zoological and Environmental Education for Metro Parks Tacoma, was recently appointed to the Association of Zoos & Aquariums accreditation commission. His term will run through 2012. The 12-member accreditation commission evaluates zoos and aquariums to ensure they meet AZA's rigorous standards for animal management and care. As director of Zoological and Environmental Education for Metro Parks Tacoma, Geddes oversees Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, Northwest Trek Wildlife Park and Tacoma Nature Center. For the past 20 years, Geddes also has served as an AZA field inspector, chairing accreditation inspection teams for five-year reviews as well as special inspections of zoos and aquariums.
