Jan. 12, 2009 at 11:44am Plumbing partnership links vets with jobsWashington National Guard members and new veterans now have another pathway for pursuing meaningful employment. In an effort to fill vacancies in the trades industry, the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters forged a strategic team of organizations to provide veterans and guard members with a fast track to a high-demand industry. The alliance, which consists of the UA, the National Guard, Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs, Employment Security and Bates Technical College's Business Management and Training Center, created a four-month program called "Veterans in Piping." The program is aimed at teaching veterans and guard members the necessary skills for placement in an industry that is facing severe worker deficits due to retirements from the aging baby boomer population.
