Impact fees are being used in some areas of the South Sound, and other cities are discussing the possibility of implementing them. Marnie Allen of the Educational Service District 112 and Terri Jeffreys, assistant director for Tax and Fiscal Policy for Washington Realtors will share two viewpoints of impact fees at the Centralia Chamber Forum July 14. South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity will dedication the second phase of the Fairview Cottages Community, located at 1800 Fairview St NE, in Northeast Olympia. Finishing these four homes takes SPS Habitat one-step closer to eliminating sub-standard housing in Thurston County. The dedication celebration will be on July 12, at 10 a.m.

More than 150 Thurston County-area Realtors will take the field at Yauger Park in West Olympia for the Inaugural Venture Bank Softball Challenge starting at 8:30 a.m. on July 15. The tournament will also serve as a major fundraiser for the South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity. Each team was asked to make a significant donation as part of their participation. The day's activities include a lunch-time auction featuring such items as taking professional batting practice with the Tacoma Rainiers. The event will by staffed by volunteer Venture Bank employees, and will feature donated food and refreshments from Costco and Mud Bay Coffee Co.

At City Club of Tacoma's net lunch program, two of Tacoma's best-known bloggers, Kevin Freitas and Derek Young, will discuss the rise of social media, changing demographics and how the younger generation gets involved, and how to work with or tap into this source of community involvement. The discussion will be held at 12:15 p.m. on July 16, at Landmark Convention Center, 47 St. Helens Ave. Tickets are $30. Advance reservations are required by July 14 at (253) 272-9561.
