Weyerhaeuser unveils framing info

The building materials used behind walls and under floors are a mystery for most new home buyers. The studs, joists, beams, panels and other materials that make up the structural frame are critical for the long-term value, comfort and safety of the home.

Now, homebuyers have a fast and simple way to better understand the unique framing material needs of their areas courtesy of a Weyerhaeuser service called iLevel Performance Connection Tool, which provides a way for buyers to work more closely with their builders on ensuring quality for a key aspect of their new home that they often forget to ask about – the structural frame.

Potential buyers can visit a Web site and enter their zip codes to receive a summary of seismic, wind, precipitation and snow load conditions for their local area. The tool also provides a list of framing materials that are recommended based on local conditions.

"When buying or building a home, most people don't think to ask about the structural framing, but it's critical for how well the home functions," says Dede Ryan, manager of integrated product strategies for iLevel by Weyerhaeuser. "Appropriate framing products can help a home stand strong against nature – from wind to snow to earthquakes – as well as ensure squeak-free floors and straight walls. The iLevel Performance Connection Tool provides homebuyers and builders with a way to communicate more clearly about a home's framing needs."
