WWEE gets $55,500 for REACH program

Washington Women's Employment & Education, with offices in Tacoma and Kent, was awarded four grants during December for its flagship program,  Reaching Employability and Achieving Career Habits, or REACH Plus.

The 175-hour, five-week program teaches the skills and behaviors people need to obtain living-wage jobs or get further education for long-term careers.
The organization received $35,000 from an anonymous donor, $7,500 from the William Kilworth Foundation, $12,000 over the next three years from the Catherine Holmes Wilkins Foundation and $1,000 from the JiJi Foundation.

During fiscal year 2009, clients entered WWEE with an average wage of $708 and exited the program with an average wage of $1,681. Two thirds of the program's graduates entered full- or part-time employment, higher education or vocational training, or a work related internship.
