Breanne Coats Associate Editor

Breanne Coats joined Business Examiner editorial team in September 2008. Since then, she has enjoyed reporting on the unique and active South Sound business community. As an associate editor Breanne covers communications, education, hospitality, human resources, manufacturing, military, minority businesses, nonprofits, retail, start ups, technology, trade, transportation and tourism.

Like many Washingtonians, Breanne was born and raised in South Sound. She grew up in Gig Harbor and was a proud Peninsula High School Seahawk.  She not only played volleyball and tennis during her teen years, but also discovered a passion for journalism. She went on to attend PLU -- Pacific Lutheran University and her interest was heightened by the school's incredible team of communication professors.

In 2008 Breanne graduated from PLU with a double major in communication and history and a double minor in literature and women's and gender studies. While at PLU she was published in numerous local publications including The Olympian, The Peninsula Gateway and the Puyallup Herald. She has also produced online videos for The News Tribune and worked at the NPR station, KPLU.

Breanne is also passionate about protecting the press and other important First Amendment freedoms. As a result, Breanne became a member of the Society of Professional Journalists. She was named the SPJ 2008 Julie Galvan Outstanding Graduate in Journalism award winner and upon graduation from PLU took off for Indianapolis for a Freedom of Information national internship with SPJ.

Breanne considers family one of the most important things in her life. Her immediate family resides in the South Sound and she could not imagine a day going by without seeing or hearing from one of her two sisters, brother-in-law or one of her accomplished parents.

"Work hard, play hard" is a motto Breanne lives by. When she is not reporting, Breanne can be found singing in her car, watching sports or movies with her family, dancing and laughing with her friends, and, of course, walking and playing with the loves of her life - two precious shih tzus named Bia and Gus.
