Holly Smith Peterson
Holly Smith Peterson began covering news around the South Sound for the Business Examiner as a freelancer in January 2010, and joined us on a full-time basis in February 2011. Holly's career began more than 25 years ago with a Journalism degree from The Ohio State University. After a copywriting stint for the American Automobile Association, she jumped over to The Cincinnati Enquirer/The Cincinnati Post while simultaneously growing her freelance career.
What followed was two years of backpacking solo around the world while writing travel guides and cultural titles for publishers such as Oxford University Press, Random House, Prentice Hall, The Sierra Club, The National Textbook Company and more. She finally settled in Seattle, where she was the managing editor for the International Examiner - then launched a full-time freelance writing/editing career while simultaneously starting a family.
For the past decade she's been the solo parent of three children while still traveling the world for Fodor's Travel Guides and publishing articles/online content that have appeared in The Seattle Times, The Kitsap Sun, Gig Harbor Life, and other publications. In what rare spare time she has, she enjoys doing anything outdoors with her kids - and watching baseball.
