Mike Boyd began his journalism career as a sports writer at the Valley Morning Star in Harlingen, Texas.

During the ensuing years, he has worked in sports department, the copy desk and the metro desk at newspapers in Texas and North Carolina.

Before joining the Business Examiner during December 2009, he spent nearly six years as editor of the Colorado Springs Business Journal.

While in Colorado, Mike served on the boards of directors of the Boys & Girls Club of the Pikes Peak Region and the University Club of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He also was a member of the Business Advisory Board of Pike Peak Community College and the Community Advisory Board of the Colorado Springs Conservatory.

During his free time, Mike likes to play golf and is looking forward to rediscovering boating and water skiing, two recreational activities which aren't easily accomplished in land-locked Colorado.

Mike believes that a newspaper should not only provide information about its community, but also be a part of the community.
